1. I’ve been thinking a lot lately about what my ideal work schedule is and how to get to that schedule. I’d like to stop working by 3pm each day so that Eleanor (and our future children) will never need after school care. I think I can make that happen by the start of the new year. I’m pretty excited about the idea. It’s not something I had growing up, but I want it for my kids.

2. We’ve been making our own pizza at home. But with pre-made whole wheat dough from Trader Joe’s, I’m not ambitious enough yet to make my own dough. And I have to say that our pizza is really, really good! Much better, and much, much less expensive than the place we order from!

3. It’s birthday season. We’ve been to a few parties for Eleanor’s preschool classmates recently, we have another this weekend. Here’s a couple shots from last weekend’s party at an indoor play place with inflatable slides and bounce houses:

4. I went out to dinner with my BFF, Andrew, this week. We had margaritas the size of our heads. Next time I will ask what they mean by “the big one,” because what they consider “big” is what I would call enormous!

The Bee’s Knees is a weekly feature wherein I ramble about all the lovely little things that are inspiring me this week.

I just love train travel.  There is something that is so wonderfully romantic and idyllically charming about train travel.  I love the shape of trains, new and old. I love the long, seemingly unending leading lines of a train track. I love the sound of a train from the whistle to the metallic rolling sound of the wheels on the tracks, to the clattering sounds the cars make.

Trains feel like the perfect heirloom of an idealized era in this country before cars and planes seemed so necessary. To me trains are all about the 30s and 40s, bustling train stations filled with men and women in beautifully tailored suits, wearing hats, and carrying briefcases and clutch purses. Everyone looking like Cary Grant or Katherine Hepburn.

Right now I’m working in downtown Los Angeles a couple days a week. I ride the train into Union Station and every time I get on that train and get to walk through Union Station I feel so grateful for the opportunity to feel like I’m stepping into a romantic past in some small way and it makes my heart beat just a little faster.

This image was taken while on a shoot in Fillmore. Unfortunately it wasn’t a train related shoot. But I’m dying to do one! Contact me if you’re interested!

1. I joined a new gym this week! I’m pretty excited about it. I’ve been taking classes at Pilates Plus for the last eight months and loving it, but it’s awfully expensive and I just don’t have the time to go to the scheduled classes so I’m not going often enough for it to be worth it. So I joined a new gym with very reasonable membership rates so I can go whenever I can make the time!

2. I’m getting excited about a shoot tomorrow morning that I’m doing here. It’s the cutest location ever!

3. It’s been a long exhausting week! I’m really looking forward to family movie night tonight!

4. I’d love to have a little backyard vineyard someday, like the one I shot in last weekend. Photos from that shoot to come!
